the Night I Walked Alone || #LechugaTravels
Heyyo fellow blog readers!!
So today What did I do? Not much really. I really needed to
just eat and relax. So that’s what I did. I had gone to bed at…3ish last night
and we had to get up for our orientation meetings at 10 but of course I for some
reason don’t know how to sleep and I woke up at 8:30ish instead of just 9. Sure
it’s good to be early but sleep is important and you should honor what’s
important. Anyways, our meetings weren't that bad but they also weren't that
great.
After the second meeting though I went out to lunch with my
friend, Carly. We wanted to use the meal vouchers they give us but we didn't know where to go. Luckily we found a nice little cafe that had glorious food. Carly had a sandwich and I had a burger—it was heaven in my mouth! This year I told myself I wouldn't drink anymore soda but I was really having a craving so I had a coke. The glass they put it in was really cool. (Weird observation I know but it was so pretty, I really enjoyed it.)
Look at that yummy thang. Mmm.
After our meal we headed back toward campus, to the bakery I
went to the first day. Carly got coffee and a treat while I got hot chocolate
and a treat. Honestly, my stuff was bit too sweet, even for me.
We went back to our rooms after that and no lie, I was a
little bummed that’s all we did but it turned out being okay because my key was
giving me issues so I ended up getting a new one. Oh and I finally got a full
length body towel. Lechuga’s gonna showah lovely 2nighhht.
I did pretty much nothing after. I vlogged a little, went to
another meeting—where I talked to two girls who seem shy but I think I’d get
along with well— got myself situated and after the meetings I went back to my
room with my roommates. I was going to go out on my own and eat and explore but
when it seemed they weren’t going out with our other friends I thought I would
wait to grab food with them. One of my roommates started took a nap though
while the other did laundry and it really set me back. At first I didn’t mind,
as I was skyping Geraldine but I wanted to eat early and sleep early. It’s okay
though. I’m just resting. I wish I had gotten those girls from earlier’s
numbers. Or even the twins numbers. I need peoples numbers.
Anyways, after contemplating whether I should just go it
alone like I had originally planned or what I finally got up and told my
roommates I need to get money out and also I’m hungry. One of my roommates had
been taking the longest nap ever finally got up and headed out. After walking
for who knows how long we stopped at a restaurant…that for me was a tad too
expensive. So I ended up parting ways with them there seeing as my roommate was
dead set on eating right then. I asked for directions and parted ways.
And eventually...I made it to the Vatican! Yay!
My stomach started grumbling so I realized I really needed
to find food. I was so hungry I wasn’t hungry anymore. Luckily one of my wrong
turns brought me to a little supermarket. I bought a sandwich, pineapples and
water. Also I spoke a little Spanish/Italian mix of a language and I’m pretty
certain the cash register lady thought I either spoke Italian or was Italian…let’s
be honest she probably thought I just spoke it. I don’t look Italian.
Look at this cute little Nutella container I saw at the supermarket!
After many more wrong turns I finally got the courage to ask
a lady. I spoke my little Italian to her and she responded, “I’m sorry I don’t
speak Italian.” So I said, “oh good me either!” Unfortunately her lack of
knowledge of the language also meant she lacked navigation skills of the area. I
ask two ladies later on and they spoke Italian the entire time until they
showed me the directions on the map, that’s when one of them asked, “Do you
speak English?” “Yes!” I oh too quickly responded.
This has nothing to do with anything I just passed it and thought I'd snap a photo.
Getting back to my dorm was really rewarding though. I am
not the best navigator. I practically get my sister lost on streets we’ve known
our whole lives. It’s like I know the way, but I always miss something that
gets me lost. So returning to campus was a relief. I literally did what you’re
not supposed to do—walk alone, at night, in an area I do not know. I don’t
recommend this at all, because this could have gone wrong very quickly. But I’m
lucky and I did it.
Feelings:
I was little upset with myself for not getting out there and
just walking around. I wasted so much of my day doing nothing. Especially when
it got dark I got more afraid. Do I wish I had gone out earlier so I could
sleep earlier? Yes. I also slightly wish I took a nap but I didn’t want to ruin
my sleep schedule. But you know everything happens for a reason, and the way it’s
supposed to so it’ll turn out okay. Plus I got to vlog a hell of a lot! (If I got
scared I would talk to the camera). Also I was slightly irritated with my
roommate for being a little inconsiderate about the food stuff but ya know that’s
why you gotta do you. Do what you want to do. Even if it means you gotta walk
alone. Well, let me repharse: do you up to an extent. Don’t be too selfish
either, but sometimes it’s okay to think of you and what you can/can’t do. So I’m
proud I did me.
Welp, until next time...
Laytah!
