Tips for Finals Week!
Heyyo fellow blog readers!!
It’s finals week here at SJU and the stress levels are high!
Like waaay high. Like Sky High. (5 points if you get it ;)). Especially with
all the finals, final projects, and final obligations in general rearing their
ugly heads…ayayay. It’s like everything you were avoiding has boomeranged back
at FULL SPEED.
(Check it out, my first gif! p.s. that's our dog Manchita, in case you were wondering.)
So how do you deal with this pile of shiz you should’ve
done/been prepared for already? Well I don’t know. But let me tell you what I
do to keep my head from completely exploding. :) :
- Make a “to-Done” List.
- La Bigsis was actually the one who told me to do this. Making a “to-done” list is a great way to get you started off in the list-making process. It lets you realize all the things you’ve done and accomplished for the day/week/month/year. It may sound kind of dumb but it’s actually very encouraging.
- Your “To-Done” list can include anything from “yay I finished my project!” to “yay I got out of bed!”
- Make a “To-Do” List
- Honestly, you should try to make lists as often as you can. It’s a really good organization technique. But it can also make some people (myself included) very….anxious. For me, it makes me realize everything I’ve yet to do and then myheartstartstoraceandI’mfreakingoutbecauseIkeeplookingatthelistandprocrastinatingandlookingatthelistandignoringthelistandOMG. *SIGH*
- This is why I make a “to-Done” list before making a “to-do” List, makes me feel better about myself.
- Anyways—make a list of things you need to get done. You don’t need to make it in a particular order for now—just write down what you need to do and when it needs to get done.
- Prioritize
- Look at your “To-Do” List and figure out in what order you want to get it done. From hardest to easiest? Easiest to hardest? What’s due first? Put it in order of whatever you want to do first. (And then do it.)
- Put it in your planner/calendar
- Put your to do list in your planer. Write what needs to get done by what day. This helps me out so much you have no idea, to see it visually gives me a better idea of just how much time I have to get it done by.
- Feel Overwhelmed
- The next thing I do is get overwhelmed. Because I’m realizing how little time I have left. You’ll probably feel overwhelmed, too. And that’s totally okay, just remember—it’s going to be okay. Take a breather.
- Nap.
- I don’t know about you but after feeling overwhelmed I must nap it off and go to dream world to forget about my worries. I suggest you do the same…plus then you can feel refreshed and completely ready to take on the tasks ahead.
- Pep Talk Time
- I need to give myself a pep talk before getting down to business [to defeat…(5 points if you can finish this sentence ;)]
- But seriously do not underestimate the pep talk. Because the fact (probably) is that you’ve procrastinated doing most all your needed obligations, which technically is not okay, but realistically happens to all of us. And whilst I personally never regret the nap—because it’s usually needed to clear your mind and help you start a little fresh, it does also delay the getting down to business time. So I need pep talk myself up, let myself know it’s okay. I can do this.
- If I can’t bring myself to pump myself up and encourage myself I will call someone to do it for me. I will call my Mami, or La Bigsis, a Best Friend, or a cousin—I will call and if you can’t motivate yourself I suggest you do the same. It’s incredibly helpful.
- [My most favorite phrase I say to myself is: It’s going to be okay, because it has to be okay. And it will all be okay. (Or sometimes: It’s going to get done because it has to get done. And, again, it will be okay.)]
- Suck it up and Get Going!
- Finally, after all the procrastination and unnecessary wasted time—I do my shiz. I start and finish those projects. I do those review sheets or make my own as best I can. I study. If I had other errands to run, I pick a day and I do them all. And slowly but surely I get things crossed off my list until everything has been completed and all my exams have been taken (and hopefully aced)!
(this is our friend Candice in case you were wondering)
Basically all these end of the semester responsibilities do
come quickly and pile up fast but you need to make a plan and know that
everything will turn out okay (because it has to), just remember to stay
positive!
This is the first time
I will say this phrase, but it probably won’t be the last but:
Thoughts Become Things
(I’m going to write a post on this soon but for now, long
story short: Think positively and positive things will ensue.)
Don’t let the stress of the end of the semester get to
you so badly you get charged out. You can make it through. You can do it.
Buckle down and get that shiz done—study
for those exams as much in advance as you can, you know yourself and how well
you test. Plan out those projects,
what you want to do and what you can do. Finally just do it. Go to the exam and take it with
confidence! Even if you didn’t study—own that! Don’t even think about an easy
route out. You messed up, it’s fine.
Do the best you can in all your exams, and
all your other endeavors!
Good Luck blog readers—you can do it!
As for me, I’m fortunate enough to only have to take 4 exams
(I take 6 classes) and they’re all just regular quizzes we’ve been taking all
semesters so it’s no biggie. So no need to pray for me, I’ll pray for you!
Anywaysssss, hope you have a lovely day/night! Until the
next post—see ya!
